The Napoleon Prestige 500 Built-in Grill earns high marks for its stainless steel construction, roaring BTU power, ample cooking surface, and a bundle of extra features.
To start, this built-in gas grill is made from top-to-bottom stainless steel. And that quality extends from the tip of the hood to everything beneath it.
Pop open the lid, and you’ll find a 500 square inch cooking area and four burners, each rated for 12,000 BTUs of power. Combined, you get 60,000 BTUs of heat across your cooking area. I also like having an additional warming rack.
Napoleon gas grills also feature signature wave cooking grids. This shape allows you to cook smaller foods without sacrificing them to the fire gods.
Beneath the grates, you’ll find four stainless steel burners and dual-level flame tamers. The tamers ensure even heat distribution, eliminate flare-ups, and protect the burners.

Napoleon Grills is the largest privately-owned grill manufacturer in North America. While they also manufacture fireplaces and home furnace systems, Napoleon Grills made waves thanks to their premium-style grills.
This reputation is well deserved. They are some of the sleekest, sturdy, top-shelf home grills on the market. I love Napoleon grills for a few reasons, which I’ll explain below.
Quality construction
With the exception of the entry-level Napoleon Rogue 425 Gas Grill, every gas grill reviewed here is made from top-to-bottom stainless steel. So these gas grills not only look sleek, they are built like a tank.
Stainless steel cleans easily and is a durable rust- and corrosion-resistant material. Plus, it just looks fantastic. The beauty of Napoleon’s gas grills is that nearly everything from the firebox, hood, and cabinet down to the burners are all made from stainless steel.
Technology
Napoleon grills are also packed with technology. Even mid-range Napoleons feature side tables that double as side burners. Some even have integrated ice boxes for cold drinks and ceramic infrared burners with an infrared rotisserie spit.

Closed-cart design

Are Napoleon Grills as good as a Weber?
Napoleon and Weber’s grills run neck in neck in the competition in terms of quality and extra features. I’m a fan of both manufacturers, so while I can’t choose one over the other, I will highlight the strengths and weaknesses of each brand.
Weber
Weber and Napoleon’s grills are both heavy on stainless steel and light on plastic. That quality extends from the hood, firebox, cart, and side tables down to the burners and flame tamers.
With that said, Weber grills are more compact – yet they typically have a large cooking area and additional features like illuminated knobs, side burners, flame tamers, and even infrared rotisserie burners. Many Webers are even iGrill compatible.
In general, however, Webers have fewer burners and lower BTU ratings, so they may be best suited for moderately experienced grillers who want a grill with a long lifespan.
Napoleon grills
While there are exceptions, Napoleon’s grills are pretty large. If you have the patio space for it, you’ll enjoy the roominess of a Napoleon grill. Because of that, you get a massive cooking area. Plus, the space for additional infrared side burners, integrated ice chests with a cutting board lid, and more.

What features to look for in a Napoleon Grill
There are several features to consider when shopping for a Napoleon grill. These include price, size, power, and the additional features below.
Price
Napoleon grills come in a variety of price points. Entry-level units with three main burners and a smaller closed cabinet start at under $700. Higher-end units that are loaded with features and additional burners peak at around $3,200.
Before you purchase, consider your budget and needs. Generally speaking, the larger the grill, the more it costs. And if you can get away with a three-burner grill, why spend the money on a six-burner system?
Size
When it comes to size, there’s a common misconception that bigger is better. That’s not necessarily true. Honestly, you can fit a good deal of food on a compact, three-burner grill.
That said, there is a simple formula I like to use to calculate the ideal grill size. Allot at least 72 square inches of cooking surface for each person. Double that for two, and so on.

Power

For example, if you have a grill with four separate burners with a total rating of 40,000 BTUs and a 450 square inch cooking surface, divide 40,000 BTUs by 450 square inches. That’s 88.8 BTUs per square inch.
As a general rule, a BTU rating between 80 and 100 is perfect.
