Best Grill Brush Reviews

Here are the complete reviews of the ten best grill brushes in 2024. Keep reading after the reviews for a guide on what to look for when choosing a grill brush.

1. Grillart Bristle Free Grill Brush – Best Overall Choice #1

Grill Brush and Scraper Bristle Free – Safe BBQ Brush for Grill Best Rated – 18'' Stainless Grill Grate Cleaner - Safe Grill Accessories for Porcelain/Weber Gas/Charcoal Grill – Gifts for Grill Wizard

View on Amazon

Thanks to its affordable price tag and grit-fighting design, the Grillart Bristle Free Grill Brush lands at the top of the list.

The Grillart is unlike other bristle brushes you’ve seen. There are no bristles on this guy. Instead, you get three rows of heavy-gauge wire clusters. It’s a unique design, but it works like a charm.

These metal loops overlap and crisscross, creating a sort of web with a wide diameter. Because of that, you get 360 degrees of reach and lots of texture to loosen stubborn grit.

This unt measures 18” from tip to handle. It also comes with a 6.1” wide tip scraper for extra stubborn buildup.

The handle is made of ergonomic, heat-resistant plastic. The tip of the handle also has a flexible metal helix, which provides just the right amount of rigidity and bounce.

To use it, heat your grill for 15 minutes until it reaches a minimum of 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Turn off the grill, wet the brush, and watch the grit fly.

The Grillart Bristle Free Grill Brush is sturdy, affordable, has a lifetime warranty, and works quickly – without loose bristles. What’s not to love?

2. Grillinator 18″ BBQ Grill Brush – Best Overall Choice #2

Grillinator 18" BBQ Grill Brush for Charcoal, Pellet, Infrared & Gas Grills - Dual Direction Steel Bristles Clean & Scrape The Entire Grill at The Same Time - Steel Handle & Replaceable Heads

View on Amazon

The Grillinator 18” BBQ Grill Brush is built like a tank. The handle is made from reinforced stainless steel and has a contoured, rubberized grip for increased control and comfort.

Tightly bound metal spindles secure the bristles. This design dramatically reduces bristle balding.

The bristle arrangement is also unique. The front and back of the brush have horizontal bristle rolls. Between the rows are three rows of shorter, vertically laid bristle rolls. This design is both unique and effective.

As you work, the front and back bristle rolls clear grit from the top of the grates. At the same time, the middle bristles attack everything between the grates. This cuts your work time in half.

Even the best things don’t last forever. And that’s why Grillinator offers replacement heads.

Grillinator is a newish company that was founded out of frustration. Like you, the guys at Grillinator were fed up with cheap grill brushes, flimsy plastic handles, and rootless wire bristles that shed after a single use.

So that’s why they designed the Grillinator 18” BBQ Grill Brush. It’s is one of the toughest, well-designed brushes I’ve come across.

3. Grillaholics Pro Brass Bristle Grill Brush

Grillaholics Pro Brass Grill Brush - Softer Brass Bristle Wire Grill Brush for Safely Cleaning Porcelain and Ceramic Grates - Lifetime Manufacturer's Warranty

View on Amazon

The Grillaholics Pro Brass Bristle Grill Brush is triple machine tested, porcelain safe, and comes with a lifetime guarantee. I’m struggling to find a downside.

Metal bristles are great for cleaning, but they’re not an ingredient that mixes well with your food. And that’s one of the shining features of this model.

The brass bristles are triple-tested to ensure strength and safety. As a result, this brush is 50 percent stronger and lasts 25 percent longer than most brushes on the market. And since the wire bristles are made from brass, they’re safe for porcelain and ceramic grates.

I also like the acacia wood handle and that the tip has a flexible metal helix, which provides just the right balance of strength and flexibility.

The thick bristles are set in three vertical rows with a wide splay. This design ensures that you simultaneously scrape the tops and in between the grill grates. As a result, cleaning time is cut in half.

If you’re looking for an affordable, well-made model that is porcelain safe, reduces cleanup time by 50 percent, and comes with a lifetime guarantee, check out Grillaholics Pro Brass Bristle Grill Brush.

4. BBQ-Aid Barbecue Grill Brush and Scraper

BBQ-Aid Barbecue Grill Brush and Scraper – Extended, Large Wooden Handle and Replaceable Stainless Steel Bristles Head – Safe, No Scratch Cleaning - Best for Any Grill: Char Broil & Ceramic

View on Amazon

The BBQ-Air Barbecue Grill Brush and Scraper is a tough, budget-friendly grill brush and scraper with one significant advantage: you can replace worn brush heads.

This unit comes with a 3.5” X 3.93” brush head. That’s just under 14 square inches of scraping power. And the real beauty is that you can purchase replacement brush heads when yours wear out. That saves you money and keeps old grill brushes out of the landfill.

The 15” acacia wood handle is also a nice touch. It feels comfortable in hand and wears nicely. I also like that the brush head is double-riveted to the handle and connected by a steel plate. So feel free to put a little pressure on this one.

This unit also features a durable scraper with offset grooves. This part of the device is beneficial for loosening stubborn grit that gathers between the grill grates.

I like the BBQ-Air Barbecue Grill Brush and Scraper because it’s affordable, American-made, and takes replacement brush heads.

5. Kona 360° Clean Grill Brush

Kona 360 Clean Grill Brush - A Clean Grill in 30 Seconds Or Less - 18 inch Best BBQ Brush - Stainless Steel 3-in-1 Grill Cleaner for Effortless Cleaning

View on Amazon

The Kona 360° Clean Grill Brush may be one of the most affordable grill brushes on the market, but it can hang with the best.

This model features an 18” nearly unbreakable handle. It’s long enough to reach tight corners and curved for comfort and leverage.

I wish this model had a brush head with a scraper, but it’s certainly not a deal-breaker at this price.

The stainless steel bristles come in three vertical rows with a wide splay. This setup ensures that you’re simultaneously hitting the top and sides of your grill grate.

The bristles are tough, but they’re safe to use on porcelain and ceramic grates. Kona also sells a grill brush and cleaner spray bundle if you want to attack grit with a little less elbow grease.

The Kona 360° is an essential, no-frills unit. Yet, it cleans hot grates from every angle without excessive scraping.

6. Alpha Grillers Grill Brush and Scraper

Alpha Grillers Grill Brush and Scraper. Best BBQ Cleaner. Perfect Tools for All Grill Types, Including Weber. Stainless Steel Wire Bristles and Stiff 18 Inch Handle. Ideal Barbecue Accessories

View on Amazon

The Alpha Grillers Grill Brush and Scraper share a few design features with the Grillinator 18” BBQ Grill Brush but comes in at roughly half the price.

Like the Grillinator, the Alpha features a long, 18” handle. I favor the handle on the Alpha because it’s textured and has a ribbed stopper near the tip. This gives me a better grip, leverage, and control.

The brush head is also laid out like the Grillinator: two thick brush rolls are mounted to the front and rear of the head. Sandwiched between are three vertical metal bristles.

The brush head design is simple but ingenious because it simultaneously scrapes the top and sides of the grill grates. So you can work quickly without exerting a lot of muscle.

I also like that this model has a scraper. It’s not quite as sturdy as the Grillinator, but remember, it’s half the price.

This bristle brush is also safe to use on all porcelain and cast iron grates.

If you’re looking for intelligent design, 360-degrees of cleaning power, and a budget-friendly price tag, check out the Alpha Grillers Grill Brush and Scraper.

7. Unicook Outdoor BBQ Grill Brush

Unicook Outdoor Grill Brush, Heavy Duty Nylon BBQ Cleaning Brush, Removable Head XL Gas Grill Cleaner, Durable and Effective, Best Alternative to Dangerous Wire Brush, Do Not Use on Hot/Warm Grill

View on Amazon

Most manufacturers use metal bristles for their durability and scraping power. But that doesn’t change the fact that metal bristles break, rust, and, on rare occasions, end up in food.

If you’re looking for a grill scraper that won’t rust or break, the Unicook Outdoor BBQ Grill Brush may be a good choice for you.

This bristle brush uses heavy-duty nylon bristles rather than metal wires. So you won’t find stray bristles on your grill grates, and they won’t snap or rust.

It’s surprising, but these nylon bristles still have plenty of bite to them. They’re abrasive enough to remove grit. Plus, you can use them on ceramic, porcelain, cast iron, or stainless steel grates without damaging the finish.

One downside of this grill brush and scraper combo is that you can only use this unit on a cool grill surface. That’s not ideal, but it’s certainly not a deal-breaker, especially at this price.

I do like the 17.75” handle. It has a contoured grip, so it sits comfortably in hand and provides plenty of leverage. The tool hook is also a nice bonus.

The 5.25” X 3.5” wide brush head covers a lot of surface area. I also like that this one comes with a stainless steel brush head scraper. This is especially useful for loosening stubborn grit that you can’t loosen with the nylon bristles.

If you’re looking for a good model that won’t shed loose bristles or rust, check out the Unicook.

8. Weber 18-Inch Bamboo Grill Brush

Weber 6464 18-Inch Bamboo Grill Brush

View on Amazon

If you’re a casual griller and don’t need a workhorse grill brush, the Weber 18-Inch Bamboo Grill Brush is a solid option.

This is the most affordable grill brush on the list. It doesn’t have the same quality and robust design as Grillart or Grillinator grill brushes, but this is a tool for casual grillers. Plus, it costs ⅓ the price of most grill brushes on the market.

What I do like about this design is the 18” bamboo handle. This provides plenty of grip and leverage. In addition, the stainless steel bristles are thick and firmly rooted in the brush head, so they don’t rust or shed.

I also like the notched tip. This is just as useful for scraping stubborn grit as it is for repositioning grill grates.

Casual, budget-conscious grillers will like the Weber 18-Inch Bamboo. It’s basic, effective, and darn affordable.

9. Grillaholics Essentials Steel Grill Brush

Grillaholics Essentials Grill Brush Steel - Triple Machine Tested for Safety - Stainless Steel Wire Grill Brush for Deep Grill Cleaning - Lifetime Manufacturers Warranty

View on Amazon

Grillaholics Essentials Steel Grill Brush is nearly identical to the Grillaholics Pro Brass Bristle Grill Brush.

The main difference is that the Grillaholics Essentials Steel Grill Brush comes with stainless steel bristles rather than brass bristles.

Remember, brass is safest for cleaning porcelain grates.

Safety is one of Grillaholics’ primary concerns. That’s why they triple test the metal bristle to ensure that they won’t crack or shed. As a result, this brush is 50 percent stronger and lasts 25 percent longer than most brushes on the market.

There’s a lot to like about this wire grill brush. The acacia wood handle is sleek, comfortable, and features a flexible metal helix. This gives this grilling tool just the right balance of strength and flexibility.

The thick bristles are set in three vertical rows with a wide splay. This bristle brush design ensures that you simultaneously scrape the tops and in between the grill grates. As a result, cleaning time is cut in half.

If you’re looking for an affordable, well-made unit that gives you 360-degrees of scraping power and is backed by a lifetime warranty, then check out the Grillaholics Essentials Steel Grill Brush.

10. Traeger Grill Brush

Traeger Pellet Grills BAC537 BBQ Cleaning Brush Accessory

View on Amazon

If you own a grill with porcelain-coated grates, I highly recommend the Traeger Grill Brush. It’s the best grill brush on this list for porcelain-coated grates.

This nylon brush provides a softer cleaning and won’t damage the special coating on your grates as a metal scraper might. That said, this nylon scrub pad provides plenty of grit.

This model has a few shining features. To start, the handle and head are made from a single piece of stainless steel. This stainless steel scraper is rock solid.

The handle is covered with two pieces of triple-riveted wood. This gives the tool a sleek look, but it also provides extra grip and leverage.

What’s cool about this grill brush and scraper is that it comes with a dual-grip handle. Place one hand on the wood handle, then grab the second handle located at the head of the brush. This doubles your leverage and allows you to make bold, sweeping strokes.

I highly recommend the Traeger if you’re wary of wire brushes and looking for a safer option that won’t rust, break, or leave behind dangerous bristles.

What features to look for when buying a grill brush

There are several features to consider when shopping for bristle brushes. These include handle length, material, bristle type, and the additional features below.

Handle length

For best results, I suggest preheating your grill to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for at least fifteen minutes. This will loosen stubborn carbon and grit and ease the cleaning process.

Because you’re working over a piping hot grill, I suggest using a brush with at least a 15” handle. This will give you great reach and protect your arms and hands while you work.

Handle Material

Grill brush handles are made from various materials. The most common being stainless steel, heat-resistant plastic, and wood. As you’ll see, each material has benefits and limitations.

Stainless Steel

Grill brushes with a stainless steel handle earn points for their durability and corrosion resistance. However, stainless steel tends to absorb heat, which doesn’t mix well with bare hands. For these reasons, I prefer a stainless steel handle with wood covers.

The mix of wood and metal looks sleek, provides a solid grip, and stays cool over the hot cooking surface.

Plastic

High heat-resistant plastic handles are another excellent choice. Units with plastic handles are some of the best grill brushes because they provide a solid grip, ample leverage, and can take the heat.

Bristle Material

One of the most important factors to consider is the bristle material when it comes to grill brushes. Choosing the right bristle style depends on your preferences and the kind of grates you have.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel is tough and rigid but still flexible enough to give you 360-degrees of reach. It’s also a more rigid material than brass and nylon. So while it does a fantastic job of clearing carbon buildup, it’s not particularly gentle on grates.

I suggest using stainless steel grill brushes for heavy-duty cleaning jobs, but only if you are working with stainless steel and cast-iron grates that do not have a protective coating.

Brass

Brass is softer than stainless steel and more rigid than nylon. So it’s ideal for medium cleaning jobs. If you own a grill with porcelain and ceramic grates, stick to brass brushes.

Brass bristles are tough enough to loosen gunk from the grates without penetrating your grates’ protective coating.

Nylon

Recently, there have been a few reports of people being injured because they ingested stray bristles that were left behind on the grates. That may explain why nylon brushes have suddenly surged in popularity.

Nylon brushes will never compete with stainless steel brushes simply because nylon is not as dense of material as stainless steel. Plus, it isn’t heat resistant, so nylon brushes can’t be used on hot grills.

That said, nylon is a good material for light cleaning jobs, especially when scraping porcelain-coated and ceramic grill grates.

Bristle free

Grill brushes have come a long way in the last decade. These days, manufacturers are even making bristle-free brushes. A bristle-free brush has a head with heavy-gauge wire clusters instead of bristles. This eliminates shedding without compromising durability.

What is the best BBQ grill brush for you?

So what are the best grill brushes on the market? That ultimately depends on your budget and needs, but I’ve settled on two standout units.

Leading the pack is the Grillart Bristle Free Grill Brush. This is a bristle-free brush, so you don’t have to worry about leaving stray bristles behind or, worse yet, finding metal wires in your food.

Instead, you get three rows of heavy-gauge wire clusters. These metal loops overlap, creating a sort of cleaning web with a wide diameter. Because of that, you get 360 degrees of reach and lots of texture to loosen stubborn grit.

From tip to handle, this unit measures 18”. It also comes with a 6.1” wide tip scraper, which comes in handy, especially with stubborn buildup.

The heat-resistant plastic handle is comfortable. I also like that the tip has a flexible metal helix, giving just the right rigidity.

As a bonus, the Grillart comes with a lifetime warranty.

In my opinion, the second-best model on the market is the Grillinator 18” BBQ Grill Brush. It s a great cleaning tool.

This one is made from reinforced stainless steel. The handle is contoured and provides plenty of leverage and grip. I also like the unique bristle design.

The front and back of the brush have horizontal bristle rolls. Between are three rows of shorter, vertically laid bristle rolls. So when you work, the front and back bristles hit the top of the grates. At the same time, the middle bristles attack the sides.

This design significantly reduces cleanup time. And, best of all, you’re able to order replacement heads for the Grillinator 18”!

I hope you found my list of the best grill brush options helpful.

Happy grilling!
